PHI CHAPTER ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Chapter Awards

  • 2006 Department of Fraternity & Sorority Life (DSFL) Outstanding Community Service Chapter Award

  • 2016 Minority Greek Council (MGC) President's Cup, DFSL Sexual Assault Awareness Program of the Year

  • 2021 DFSL Community Service Event of the Year

  • 2022 MGC President's Cup   

  • 2023 DFSL: Outstanding Community Service Award, Program of the Year, Certified Green Chapter

 

Chapter Initiatives

  •  1995 - Hermanos established the Hispanic Heritage Coalition for the first Hispanic Heritage Month celebration with Latino undergraduate organizations.  The group was renamed and is currently the Coalition of Latino Student Organizations.

  • 1995 - An Hermano was the co-founder of the Latino Business Society which later was renamed the Latin American Business Organization.

  • 1997 - Phi Chapter established La Unidad Latina Book Fund to support UMD library’s efforts to purchase books focused on contributions of Latinos to US history. 

  • 1996 - Phi Chapter hosted the inaugural Latino Bienvenida with undergraduate organizations to welcome Latino students to campus.  As of 2023, Phi chapter has hosted the event for 27 years in a row.

  • Adopt-A-Highway located at UMD University Blvd and Adelphi Road intersection  

  • 2005 - Phi hosted 10th year Chapter Anniversary Gala

  • 2008 - Phi Chapter Hermanos were lead planners for the Carolina Rojas-Bahr Tree planting and memorial in Hornbake Plaza

  • 2008 - Phi Chapter Hermanos were primary contributor US Latino Studies Program (Minor Concentration)

  • 1998 - Phi's annual Annual Toy Drive done in collaboration with Latino organizations on campus. Toy donations are made to Mary’s Center & later to Sanctuary DMV.  In 2022, Phi chapter raised $1,600.

  • 2009 - Phi Chapter Hermanos assisted in the founding of Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) at UMD.

  •  2015 - Phi Chapter hosted 20th year Chapter Anniversary Gala. 

  •  2022 - Phi Chapter established the Maria Sempertegui Legacy Book Scholarship to support current and future Terrapins that are presented during Phi's annual Bienvenida. In 2022 and 2023, Phi awarded a total of $3,600 in scholarships to 10 students from UMD, Montgomery College and Prince George’s Community College.

  • 2023 - An Alumni and an undergraduate Hermano became co-founders of UMD's Latino Pre-Law Society.
